Barrie House Legacy

Barrie House has been sourcing, blending and roasting coffee for the finest NYC restaurants and hotels since 1934. For four generations, like all great family secrets, the art of roasting specialty coffee has been passed down from one generation to the next. Today, Barrie House is America’s fourth-largest provider of fair-trade coffee and is continuously innovating its offerings. They believe that the secret to our premium coffee is based upon a simple idea: that coffee should be distinct, consistent, aromatic, balanced, and most of all, delicious.

Roasting Notes

Barrie House labels its coffee in the traditional way: light, medium and dark roast. But, if you want in on a secret, Barrie House’s roasting is far more meticulous. Craft coffee comes from living plants whose qualities are unique to their soil, elevation, latitude, precipitation and variety. Their master coffee roasters focus on the smallest details to help our coffee reach its fullest potential. That’s why each blend and single-origin coffee Barrie House offers is carefully roasted at different, exacting temperatures and times and in much smaller batches to bring out the very best in every bean.

Light Roast

Lighter roasts tend to preserve a bean’s complex, subtle flavors, like floral and citrus notes. These coffees are usually bright and will dazzle the senses. Some lighter roasts can be more acidic than medium or dark roasts. Light roast coffees are particularly great with the higher temperature and longer brew time typical of a pour over brew.

Medium Roast

For most coffee drinkers, medium roast coffees will deliver the perfect blend of unique flavors, balance, and smoothness. Flavors from the roasting process will come more into play as the coffee’s natural acidity is rounded out, you’ll begin to taste notes like chocolate and caramel.

Dark Roast

Many classic Old World coffees, like Italian and French roast, are dark-roasted. Rich roasty and caramelized notes take the forefront and highlight the art in blending and roasting the perfect cup of coffee. Dark roasts tend to have robust flavor, full bodies, and low acidity compared to medium and light roasts.

Storage Tips

Once opened, store in an airtight container at room temperature in a cool, dry place and away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not freeze or refrigerate. Avoid air, moisture, heat and light.
