Kamut is known as the "high energy" wheat. Originating and once popular all across the fertile crescent of the Middle East during the time of the Pharoahs, Khorosan Wheat derives its name from the ancient province of Khorosan, and was nearly lost in the sands of time until it was rediscovered in modern times. Kamut is thousands of years old and its history is elusive -- possibly by being brought to America by a tomb raider in the 1960’s or discovered at an open air market in Cairo. Kamut was trademarked in order to preserve its integrity in its original form and to guarantee that it meets certain standards such as it must always be grown organically.
